01/2026 Updates - Coming Back Up to Speed
Apologies for being away so long.
It’s been a long journey in life since my last trip of 2021 and it’s not completely over yet.
My mind and heart were occupied with some very pressing life situations.
My brother Sydney, who for many years had been chronically ill with kidney disease, took a turn for the worse right after the loss of our mother, and now required dialysis treatment no longer once, but 3 times a week.
Not being physically present to assist with his care, my wife Vonny and I immediately re-arranged our finances and stepped further up to meet the demands of his increased needs.
We traveled together in April of 2023 for a visit which we hoped would not be a last visit with him.
It was so nice to see him “light up” with joy at our arrival and presence for the couple of weeks we were there and with heavy hearts said our “see ‘ya later’s” when we had to return home to “the states”.
Although not completely unexpected, a phone call to us from our eldest sibling Leo on December 1st that same year, shared the sad news of his “passing”.
A bright light in my life suddenly went dim and a multitude of the hundreds of good and happy times we had shared as brothers in our lives suddenly "flashed" through my mind and the profound sadness of his loss set in!
So having had to almost deplete our financial barrel for those few short years, my attention turned to “double up” and try for some sort of a small financial recovery.
I was very fortunate that my employer gave me the opportunity to increase my work input which helped tremendously.
So during all this time, not only was motorcycle touring not a priority, but definitely unaffordable!
So the best I indulged in was commuting back and forth to work - weather permitting.
I have since retired - 1 month ago, relocated back to my old riding grounds of Corpus Christi, Texas and am now gradually re-settling with my family I’ve literally been away from for the last 13 years and the pain from the loss of my brother has still not faded!
So now that you’ve painfully sat and read my sob story, let’s refocus on motorcycling.
In my dreams, I have a lot plans not only to take more time to re-visit some places, but also to seek out more places and experiences.
My soul and mental health need the therapy and I am not ready to slow down yet.
Now that I have traversed this country, I have the luxury of being able to form a decision of which part of it I enjoy more when it comes to motorcycling.
I much prefer the western half and am so looking forward to spending more time in these parts.
The wide open spaces, long drawn out roads and in particular the more conducive riding weather conditions.
Contrarily, the eastern half of the country is just not as “enjoyable” to me.
Don’t get me wrong.
I’ve still had wonderful experiences in the east.
To a great extent I feel privileged and blessed to have had the opportunity to visit and ride through the eastern half of the country.
I have come away learning a lot, seeing a lot, making new and good relationships and gained a kind of richness in my being.
There’s a lot of “green”.
The roads just “cut through” forests of green.
After cutting through one, you’ve pretty much seen them all.
But during the “Fall” (Autumn) season, the changing colors of the leaves are a sight to behold and experience!
Vineyards, well-manicured dairy farmlands lots of quaint little villages and towns, rivers and lakes abound in many of the eastern states.
Very picturesque!
But I have found most of the cities in the east very stressful.
Don’t get me wrong, that's relatively speaking.
Anymore these days, I cannot navigate through the big inner cities of America without a GPS unit to guide me (Thank you Garmin).
So as I awaken from my riding hibernation, I have begun to add/update information with some of the motorcycles in my life gone-by - Moto Guzzi V7, Yamaha L2 G, Yamaha 80 YG-1 Honda CB 400 F - here’s a link.
Welcome back!
